Past Shows National Gallery

WCA and The National Gallery London invited the public to view a unique collection of costumes designed and created by 2nd and 3rd year BA costume students at WCA, UAL. The Costume Shows ran throughout May were part of the National Gallery Friday Lates programme, and in past years the collaboration has been a great success.
Hilary Baxter, Costume Pathway Leader at Wimbledon, commented that the shows are "a wonderful opportunity to show the different ways in which the students are currently producing new and exciting costume work" and noted that both staff and students were looking forward to sharing the finished costumes with the Gallery and the public.
In May in a series of live art events and costume parades as students from WCA brang National Gallery paintings to life as part of the Costume Parade, the Gallery's Sainsbury Wing Theatre stage became a catwalk for a special show, where the student costume Designers & Interpreters talked about their creations. The models then paraded on a set route around the Gallery before striking a pose in front of the individual paintings used by the designers as their inspiration.
